About
Concerned with the role and rights of women, I create mixed media quilts where the subject/s conveys the intricacies and stresses of the everyday. Inspired by the domestic traditions of quilting, a multi-layered textile that often marks an important life event, my work combines this typically female craft with the traditions of painting and drawing.
Ignited by current political culture, my studio practice is fueled by gender inequality, the culture of domesticity and my own narrative. I set alight my frustrations by combining past and present artworks that are simultaneously destroyed and reconstructed. My figurative paintings and drawings are joined with manipulated household materials, such as photographs, tissue boxes, cardboard, house paint, etc. Together, they form new narratives that engage with my own history and the countless stories of other women. Assembled by hand and with my late grandmother’s sewing machine, I stitch everything back together, harnessing memory and discontent into one.
Initiating my studio practice with small daily paintings of simple objects that surround, I fuel my love of storytelling and incite the narrative content of my larger work. My artwork has been exhibited widely and is in a number of private and public collections around the world.
